Returning veterans in the Green River Community College Natural Resources Program
seek summer jobs or internships
Veterans have been taking courses in forest, fish, and stream; GIS; fire science; water quality,
etc. and have been exposed to habitat projects including invasive species removal, re-vegetation,
irrigation and water quality monitoring. If you have potential internships or summer jobs, please

Lead contamination in eagles
Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is investigating lead contamination in eagles. Jim
Watson, Washington's raptor research scientist, is interested in testing any dead eagle
encountered in Washington. Eagle carcasses should be collected, frozen, and Jim should be
contacted immediately to get directions for shipping to a testing lab. It is important to note the
location, date, and circumstances carefully and take some pictures. More info: Jim Watson,

FERC solicits comments on preliminary permit for Grays Harbor Ocean Energy Project
Comments due June 22, 2008
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) granted Grays Harbor Ocean Energy Co,
LLC their preliminary permit application for the Grays Harbor Ocean Energy Project (12 wave
energy generating units). Preliminary permit allows feasibility studies, not project construction.
FERC is accepting motions to intervene as well as comments under the docket number: P-13058.

Grants
Washington State Request for Intent Forms and Proposals for the 2009 Cooperative
Endangered Species Conservation Fund
Intent Forms due June 2, 2008
State of Washington Department of Natural Resources and Department of Fish and Wildlife, in
cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, are requesting Intent Forms from parties
interested in acquiring land for conserving endangered/threatened species habitat. Organizations
interested in applying for grant funds must submit an Intent Form to allow early coordination with
state and federal agencies administering these grants.
Hugh and Jane Ferguson Foundation
Pre-application due July 15, 2008
Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) organization. Most grants will be awarded to groups in
Washington state. Average grant size; 3,000 to $7,500. Areas of interest include communitybased
projects working to restore habitat and wildlife by activating volunteers and local residents.
