Conservation Registry adds new map layer: Wildlife Action Plans
The map layer is featured as part of the suite of Registry Overlay tools accessible by a dropdown menu.
Twenty states completed strategic mapping components for their State Wildlife Action Plans, and this map layer reflects each state's unique methodology, ecological targets, species, and goals.

National Wildlife Refuge Friends Group Grant Program
Deadline: September 4, 2009
Competitive seed grants ($1,500 - $5,000) to creative and innovative proposals that seek to increase the number and effectiveness of organizations interested in assisting the Refuge System nationwide.
NOAA Coastal and Marine Habitat Restoration National and Regional Partnership Grants
Deadline: September 30, 2009
NOAA Restoration Center is soliciting applications for new three-year national and regional Partnerships to invest funding in the restoration of coastal and marine habitat nationwide, from 2010-2012. Partnerships can range from locally-driven, hands-on projects that emphasize stewardship, to mid-scale, watershed-scale projects that yield significant ecological and socioeconomic benefits. Funding range: $500,000-$1,000,000.
North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) U.S. Small Grants
Deadline: October 29, 2009
NOAA Marine Debris Program – Community-based Marine Debris Removal Grants
Deadline: October 31, 2009
Provides funding to catalyze the implementation of locally driven, community-based marine debris prevention, assessment and removal projects that will benefit coastal habitat, waterways, and NOAA trust resources. Funding range: $15,000-$250,000.

This database was designed to direct users to invasive species experts. It has been set up as a 2-tier system with the first tier accessible to the public. The public portion of the database will guide you to a state contact who acts as a filter for information and identifications. If they can’t answer your question, these state contacts have the ability to log in to the second tier experts.

Datasets added to NatureCounts
Datasets include the entire Project FeederWatch database for both US and Canada, records from the British Columbia Breeding Bird Atlas, and the Marsh Monitoring Program. NatureCounts, managed by Bird Studies Canada, facilitates the collection, management, analysis and sharing of natural inventory and monitoring data, with a particular focus on birds and other vertebrates.

Wind energy
Scientists to Investigate Impacts of Wind Power on Migratory Wildlife
Thirty top wildlife scientists have announced agreement on some of the highest research priorities to help America’s rapidly growing wind energy industry produce alternative energy—while also providing safe passage for birds and bats. This coalition of scientists from industry, government, nongovernmental organizations, and universities met recently in Racine, Wisconsin. The meeting was hosted by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the American Bird Conservancy, and The Johnson Foundation at Wingspread.

This two-day course, targeted at certified floodplain managers, National Weather Service personnel, and county, state, and municipal officials, teaches participants about coastal inundation issues and spatial techniques for mapping inundation. This course is available by request. Classes can be taught at the Center's training facility or be brought to your organization.
