This online resource is a series of short documents on various web tools and their potential uses for bird conservation.
Topics: communication and discussion tools, social networks, metabases, facilitated databases, collaborative office tools,
conferencing and webinars, online mapping. Each topic includes a description, strengths and weaknesses, examples, and

National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) Land Acquisition and Construction

By funding designated reserve agencies and universities to conduct land acquisition and construction projects that support
the NERRS purpose, NOAA will strengthen protection of key land and water areas, enhance long-term protection of the area

Template for Assessing Climate Change Impacts and Management Options (TACCIMO)
Developed by the USDA Forest Service, this web-based assessment and reporting tool for federal, state, and private land
managers and planners offers the following:
- utilizes climate change forecasts, factors impacting ecosystems, and management options to generate customized reports
that aid with forest planning and management.
- includes the ability to explore content and geospatial information and create science and planning reports.
- highlights both direct and indirect effects of climate change and helps identify possible mitigating management
options.
Birds and biodiversity
Department of Defense/Partners-in-Flight newsletter showcases new avian monitoring techniques
Steppingstones, the newsletter of DoD PIF, reports on issues of interest to those interested in bird conservation on military lands. The June 2010 issue includes an article on three projects that address critical knowledge gaps in a comprehensive avian monitoring program.
New Book: Shorebird Ecology, Conservation, and Management
After three years work, Mark Colwell's book on Shorebird Ecology, Conservation, and Management is due out in October of this year. UC Press is offering a pre-sale on the book. The organization of the book is based on a class that Dr. Colwell taught at Humboldt State University for the past 21 years.
