Grants and funding

The Nature Conservancy-NOAA Community-based Habitat Restoration Grants
Deadline: May 21, 2010
Projects in all USA states and territories are eligible to compete for these grants to restore or enhance estuarine, marine, and anadromous species and their habitats. Preference will be given to projects at priority sites identified through Marine Ecoregional Assessments and other TNC priority setting approaches.

NRCS Wetlands Reserve Enhancement Program (WREP) Funds Available
Deadline: May 24, 2010
WREP provides assistance to landowners to protect, restore and enhance high priority wetlands and improve wildlife habitat. State and local governments, Indian tribes and NGOs are eligible to submit proposals and enter into agreements with NRCS. Landowners may apply for WREP through their local NRCS offices once a WREP project has been approved.

NRCS Cooperative Conservation Partnership Initiative (CCPI)
Deadline: May 27, 2010
CCPI will be funded through three existing NRCS programs this fiscal year—the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) and the Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program (WHIP).

National Fish and Wildlife Foundation 2010 Native Plant Conservation Initiative grants
Deadline for pre-proposals: July 1, 2010
Funds multi-stakeholder projects that focus on the conservation of native plants and pollinators. Projects should focus on the effects of climate change as it pertains to the conservation, education, restoration, research, sustainability, and creating data linkages that facilitate North American native plant conservation.

Program funds conservation tasks for high priority, USFWS-managed, candidate and at-risk species in the United States. Limited to projects carrying out actions in a species’ annual Candidate Species Assessments or in a spotlight species action plan, or projects documenting species’ response to climate change.

As a first step towards understanding how wildlife responds to large- and small-scale oak and prairie habitat restoration efforts, the Oregon Wildlife Institute synthesized information on wildlife associations in these habitat types in the Willamette Valley.

USA National Phenology Network launches new web site and tools
Using the new interface, Nature's Notebook, observers can collect data on animals and plants. Other news includes tools for sharing existing data sets, rescuing historical data sets and identifying partnership opportunities.

National Marine Protected Areas Center Launches Interactive Mapping Tool and New Website
This interactive, online application was designed to help users visualize MPA boundaries and provide access to the MPA Inventory data in an interactive web-based mapping environment. The mapping tool serves data on over 1,600 MPAs nationwide, offering easy access to spatial boundaries, conservation based classification data, and site management information.
